I use this

  • Physical and virtual debit cards — works in 150+ countries
  • Instant transfers to other Revolut users (including your business account)

Get Revolut

I use Revolut as my primary personal bank. I’ve had it for years — through Colombia, Georgia, the Philippines, and everywhere in between. For someone who moves between countries, it’s the most practical personal banking option I’ve found.

The reason it’s on this site: if you’re forming a US LLC as a non-resident, you also need a personal banking setup that works internationally. Revolut solves that.

Why I Use Revolut Personal

Multi-Currency Without the Headaches

Hold 30+ currencies in one account. When I land in a new country, I exchange money at the real rate in the app — no ATM markup, no bank spread. The exchange rate is close to the mid-market rate (not quite as good as Wise, but the convenience of having it in the same app as my main account is worth it).

Spend Anywhere

The Revolut card works everywhere Visa is accepted. When I pay in a foreign currency, Revolut converts it automatically at a competitive rate. No surprise fees on my statement a week later.

On the free plan, there’s a fair-use limit on fee-free exchange (around $1,000/month — after that, a small markup applies). The paid plans increase or remove this limit.

Instant Transfers

Send money to any other Revolut user instantly, for free, 24/7. This is how I pay myself from my LLC — I send from Revolut Business to my personal Revolut in seconds, even on a Sunday evening.

Also useful for splitting costs with friends, paying contractors who use Revolut, or moving money between family members.

The App

I keep saying this, but the Revolut app is genuinely best-in-class. Budget tracking, spending analytics, savings vaults, subscription management — it’s all there and it all works well. This is where I manage my personal finances day to day.

Plans & Pricing

PlanMonthly CostKey Features
Standard$0Basic multi-currency, 1 physical card, limited fee-free exchange
Plus~$3Higher exchange limits, disposable virtual cards, purchase protection
Premium~$8Priority support, travel insurance, airport lounge access, higher ATM limits
Metal~$15Cashback on card spending, premium metal card, all Premium features
Ultra~$45Everything + dedicated relationship manager, highest limits

⚠️ Pricing varies by region and changes periodically. Check revolut.com for current plans in your country.

For most non-residents, Standard (free) or Plus is enough. I use Premium for the travel insurance and higher exchange limits.

Key Features for Non-Residents

Savings Vaults

Create separate savings vaults for different goals. Round up purchases to save spare change. Set recurring deposits. It’s simple but effective for organizing your personal finances across currencies.

Crypto & Trading

Buy and sell crypto and stocks directly in the app. I don’t use this heavily, but it’s there if you want a single app for everything. Note: features vary by region.

Travel Insurance

Premium and Metal plans include travel medical insurance — useful if you’re a nomad without permanent health coverage. Check the specific coverage for your situation, as terms vary.

Disposable Virtual Cards

Create one-time-use virtual card numbers for online purchases. The card number expires after one transaction. Good for security when buying from unfamiliar websites.

How to Sign Up

  1. Download the Revolut app (iOS or Android)
  2. Verify your identity — Selfie + passport in the app
  3. Get your account — Usually activated within minutes
  4. Order a physical card — Ships to your address (worldwide)

Revolut is available in most countries. The main exceptions are sanctioned nations and a few regions where they don’t yet have a license.

Revolut Personal + Revolut Business

The real power is using both together:

  • Instant transfers between your LLC and personal account — 24/7, including weekends
  • Same app — Switch between personal and business with one tap
  • Unified view — See all your finances in one place
  • Pay yourself easily — No waiting for ACH to clear

This is the main reason I recommend Revolut to clients who ask about personal banking. If you’re already using Revolut Business for your LLC, adding the personal account is a no-brainer.

Limitations

  • Not a traditional bank — Revolut operates under various licenses depending on region (e-money in EU, banking license in some countries). Not FDIC insured in the US.
  • Exchange limits — Free plan has fair-use limits on fee-free exchange. Heavy users need a paid plan.
  • Customer support — Can be slow on the free plan. Premium gets priority support.
  • Feature availability — Some features (crypto, trading, insurance) vary by country.

My take: I use Revolut as my primary personal account and Wise when I need to make large currency conversions (Wise’s rates are slightly better for big amounts). For day-to-day spending and managing your personal finances, Revolut’s app is hard to beat.
